NBA 2K21: Photorealistic Graphics Will Arrive in 10 Years
With the arrival of PS5 and Xbox Series, in addition to the new graphics cards on the market, the debate about realism in the visual section of video games is appearing more than usual. The sector has been evolving more and more, and the day when photorealism arrives seems to be closer, although it still remains. But from Take Two (publisher of NBA 2K21 and GTA) they already put a date to the moment in which we will not distinguish reality from fiction.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said during a presentation at the UBS Global TMT Virtual Conference that it will take 10 years for a video game to be able to deliver photorealistic graphics. Technology will allow creatives to make games that look exactly like a real picture.
“In 10 years, the business will be very different from how it is today, in the same way that it is different from a decade ago, when the mobile business did not exist. I think that then, technology will allow creatives to do things that they had never been able to do, including games that look exactly like a real image (…) Now, some works are close to real action, but it is still animation, but in 10 years you will be able to do things from a computer that look like realistic.” says Zelnick.
In this way, and although we still have to wait to find out if it is true, a question that has been present since the dawn of the sector is answered. Will video games ever become realistic? The Take-Two CEO sets that moment for 2030. Now, we just have to wait and see the evolution in games such as NBA 2K21 or GTA.
